THE PRISONER THREAD: A deep analysis of the celebrated ITV series

Post by Wallace on Tue Sep 27, 2016 3:07 am

How long you figure No. 6 was prisoner on that island?
Was it even an island? (The early episode where he gets in the air and trys to pinpoint the "prison"'s location.)
Was there  EVEN ANY TIME   involved? (Which is to say, he never was a prisoner - it was all in his head. At least two episodes hint at this: the western and the  Girl Who Was Death episode.)

Questions, questions. Many questions from this fascinating series.

Discuss, Jimmehs.

Mr Wallace:
Mr Karns is somewhat of a Prisoner Expert, but Mr Karns really does not have time for such silly questions, Accept Mr Karns appologies if he comes across a tad rude

But Karney!
As  a somewhat-expert, I'm counting on you!

You think Rudy is going to bestow anything pertinant to this most-important of threads?
Rudy's mind is on planks and raking in money.

Okay. I will nip one thing in the bud - the "prison" did NOT exist in reality. The last episode ,where  he pulls the monkeyface off to reveal his own mad, gibbering face, cannot be disputed.

Also, factor this in: throughout the series No 6 questioned THAT PERHAPS HIS OWN GOVERNMENT DID THIS TO HIM. (Back in the day, I thought this so cool and BRAVE of the series -basically  to attack patriotism. Possibly it had never been dared on Brit tv beefwhore.)
Now, it was made clear that the various No. 2s were very frightened of the consequences of failing to break no 6 - of what their own bosses would do to them.
So you think Brit govt would brainwash or kill THEIR OWN TOP MEN, NOT TRAITORS, BUT DOING THEIR JOB?    No. maybe Russia would ,but not UK. Hence, a fantasy. All in No 6's head.

The question being: how did No 6 become MAD? What lead to this? Are there any clues in the opening sequence or somewhere in the following episodes. Do we have to go back as far as some episode in the previous series, "Danger Man" (aka "Secret Agent Man")?

About this madness aspect. Perhaps it is not so clear cut.
We have to admit to one possibility: the prison DID exist and the Prisoner goes mad ONLY AT THE END. (Things go awyr. Unexplained - like why would there be a jukebox present IN A TUNNEL/CAVE, playing "All We Need Is Love" to no one. Maybe only at that point he finally broke (but not in the way the No. 2s wanted) and WENT MAD.

Mr Wallace:
The Last Episode 'Fall Out' pretty much answers your questions. The series unfolds there where the Prisoner meets his alter ego.

You will also see the Fugitives Lorry crash through the metal gates , leaving onto the Motorway. The A20 is only a few miles out of London..

The moral of the story is No.6 has suceeded in realising his opressor was none other than himself. He suceeded in destroying the evil part of himself holding him captive.

A few miles out of London, ehh? Nah -just a mistake in the series.

Does this A20 go north? Cos the nearest ISLAND would have to be friggen Lindisfarne - and thats not even a proper island.

Where dat lighthouse island locaturd then?

Mr Wallace:
You are foolishly Confusing matter with the location sets & the story line Mr Karns feels.

The 'A20' Is London to Dover stretch. Just for one moment forget that Portmeirion is located in North Wales.

That girl in the top picture is very pretty isn't she ?
I do wish she'd  be a little more modest though.
Still , she has made my penis erect now....so I'll  go and relieve  things post haste !
