THE SCAPEGOAT (uk. '58)

Lesser-known but quite worthy Alex Guinness film.

He plays two roles here: university teacher of French language goes to France on holiday. His is a lonely, boring life with no real friends, no family. He meets his doppleganger in the streets. This one is a French count with a mansion in the countryside and a legacy of a glassblower factory. He invites the teacher he is sick of all his friends and responsibilities and would welcome an unassuming life like the teacher has. He invites the teacher to his place.
In the morning the count has disappeared and ,as much as the teacher tells the family & retainers that he is not the count, none believe him - not even the bed-bound mother (Bette Davis).
He begins to enjoy the company of the wife and child, even strives to do what the count never did - try to save the 46 jobs at the failing factory. He discovers that his double had a mistress and there is a curious paragraph in the will.......

From a Daphne de Maurier (Rebecca) novel.

I meant fisting ffs !
It's this swipe suggestive keyboard. ...It does fishing instead of fisting. Which is a bugger cos nobody would want to watch fishing.
