CALIFORNIA SOLO (2012, US)

Post by Wallace on Wed Jun 24, 2015 2:59 am

Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, Hamish MacBeth) plays a 80s rock star now living virtually unknown outside of Los Angeles working on a farm & selling veggies at a farmer's market. He does his own music blog on dead rockstars. (We are not told if anyone actually listens.)

He gets pulled over for drunken driving and ,even though he has been living in US for 4 years and has a VIP-class passport, he faces deportation. He is dead-set against going back to shithole British Isles.
The only possible way out is if he can prove someone really depends on him in America. So he goes to see his ex-wife (who left him ages ago because he is a no-good, loser-father ,an alchy & former druggie.) He has to come to terms with his daughter which he has not seen for some 12 years.

In the end, nothing works and he has to go back to Scotland.
He sells his Les Paul guitar...and that is it.

Straightforward film.

If you are to believe this film, all it takes for them to deport you is a single drunk driving offense and a charge of marijuana possession going back three decades.
