 I'm with Louie Armstrong.
Who said, "there's only two kinds of music, good, and bad".
It is Louis Armstrong btw.

And FIY he never said that, it were the great Duke Ellington.

Sorry Tubs to the back of the class on the stool, you go. Again!

You are here to learn are you not.
Never mind hang in there be patient you will pass eventually.
Just got to learn to shut yer yap, and listen.
That is why we all have two ears and only one Gob.
Nobody, but nobody
referred to Armstrong as "Louis", a bit more informal over here in the states, a Louis is usually "Louie".
And that quote has been credited to one or the other over the years, I have heard it credited to Charlie Parker, but Armstrong is the most creditable I have heard.
Having heard it from him
And as far as "learning" let me "educate" you a bit.
One, why the dissin on "equipment"?
Gee, I oughta fit right in, the only piece of "equipment" I have purchased in the last ten years being a Blu ray player.
I despise self important people, which is why "Wallace" will get his wish and never hear from me again, I actually thought he was joking,
referring to himself in the third person,  calling me a peasant. What does the great Wallace know about me?
I know a great deal about Wallace, having thrown his type in jail on more than one occasion.
And I am not to "learn" but to exchange ideas, hang out, maybe even make a friend or two.
Not much I can "learn" at this late stage of the game, after you hit fifty its pretty much a waste, especially when on blood thinners, which tend to fry the brain.
Anyway, the philosophy of hating on equipment, but loving music, seems like a bit of snobbery, and frankly, idiotic.
I like road trips, but despise cars.
I like sex but hate women
I like a good story but hate books, movies, and TV.
Don't care to walk around naked, but hate the hell out of clothes.
SILLY.
Now I do see the point of getting obsessed with getting the absolute best measurement out of gear, and not listening to music unless the conditions are
perfect.
But those who fail to give at least grudging respect to well designed     gear are just being cantankerous.
You know where I listen to most of my music? In my vehicle, mostly.
And now that my old receiver in my audio rig has finally died, that will mostly be the case.
My phone has 32 gigs of music, played either through a Bluetooth speaker or headphones.
And I do love that music, no matter what the setup I am using at the moment.
And so, out of my current collection of Jazz, rock, soul, blue eyed soul, ska, reggae, boat drink songs, movie soundtracks, rhythm & blues ,country, classical, and even disco
are you going to "educate" me about?
I've only been listening to music since being a toddler, and only had this "hobby" since the age of eleven or so, some forty seven years.
So "educate me" study
OK then you are a good lad tubs, got a bit of a short fuse remind me somewhat of a bottle of Bees shake it up and it goes ballistic.

Chill, if you take Wally personally and seriously you are the only one on here who does.  The man is a great big pussy cat and a hell of a lot Smarter than he lets on, believe you me.

You and I have more in common than you think; just one thing leave the Ego at the door when you log on here. Any excuse to have a go.
Do not please be so arrogant and underestimate anybody on here, we might seem like a bunch of clowns but that will be your mistake.
Relax and have some fun .

You may presume what you choose from the posts just remember any presumptions are for the most part wrong.
We are not in a Cock measuring contest cause we already have a Champ in Our Engy, so it is pointless you see.

Hate books !
How can anyone hate books ?
I never go anywhere without a book.
Even the bog.
My mind can't rest easily enough.
I can't sit in a waiting room and read nothing.
It stops you going senile.
Books is knowledge..... knowledge is power.
Plus......you can get dirty books as well. ! Twisted Evil

That crazy-faced Klaus Kinski's autobiography.

You wont believe it.

Try your library - but I doubt they will have it.

My mate got a shipment of the Thoughts of Mao and a whole pile of Commie Propaganda.

This was 67/68 we were all still in High School; they took it very serious like here.
Did not take kindly to Commies in Apartheid South Africa, off to Goal you went.
Without your toe and finger nails I might add.

Anyway The Little Red Book was passed around among the few with the sense to not take it seriously.  He had written to some dude in Honk Kong looking for a pen pal and the bloke sent him this shit.
His mom found the stash in his cupboard and nearly had a stroke, she went ballistic, even pissed her nickers.
We had a book burning in back yard she made us burn the lot and never talk about it.
She wrote to the bloke and asked him to stop as the Security Cops were betting wise.
Our Apartheid Security Cops (BOSS) Bureau of State Security were not to be messed with.
Friggin Nazis of the first order.

Books are good, books make life worth wile.  Those who do not read good literature are missing one of the finest things in life.

I'm going to educate you about discrimination.
By your own admission you enjoy most every genre of music thrown at you.

If you were a nube on a music forum and SERIOUS about learning music , who would you go to for direction: some Howdie Doody who eats everything fed him and sees nothing bad in anything, or someone with TASTE. Someone that can discern. Someone who carefully combs through it all, sorting out the chaff. Someone with insight; with perception.

And dont give me that tired platitude, that clown certitude that there is some good in all genres of music. (For then you would have to admit there is actually something, somewhere of worth in Rudy's "collection"!)

Two things
One, don't believe in burning books, but I would take maos writing
Very seriously.
Millions have died because of it.
And except for rap and punk, have found at one worthy contribution
From most forms of music.
And have found that  most  forms of "appreciation. "Are merely
An excuse for snobbery.
When you start  out with one genre,  move on to another,
You wind up with a lot of types of music in your collection,
For nostalgia sake if nothing else.
Jazz is my main thing now, but I still enjoy other types of music.
Guess I am enjoying  it too much  to "appreciate " it

Of course lotta prog is based on classical.

Zako, give this a play:

The group is Il ROVESCHIO DELLA MEDALIA (Flip of the Coin). The lp is called "Contaminazione" (Contaminated). It is a concept lp: a Scotsman goes insane and believes he is the reincarnation of Bach.

Brilliant Italian pwogrock.

Here is entire lp:
