Tread Softley Stranger..uk {1958}

Post by Permy on Mon May 26, 2014 2:17 pm

Diana Dors, George Baker.. Dis is vary important movie fer Karn's fer wan reason. It was mostly filmed just around der corner from where Karney-boyo was brought up as a kid & lived there till leaving School..

Anyhoots When baker offboards the train at  'Rawbrough' {fictional station name} the station was actually 'Parkgate & Rawmarsh' Station bang at the side of the Station Hotel & Rotherham Iron & Steel works.. If you watch the scence where he leaves the station throught the gates, straight across the road you see a small row of Houses, they were called 'Aldwarke Terraces' Karn's used to sit on the wall in the front of the houses {by the side of Arnott & Young Scrapyard} trainspotting. One of Karney's School mates who he used to trainspott with lived in one of them, his dad owned a car scrapyard at the back of Arnott & Youngs..

The little Terrace houses are long gone, The Railway station was closed Jan 1968, The Station Hotel is still standing cos Karney-boyo pops in for drink & summert ter eat every now & then loike.. The Iron & Steel works has long gone.. All that is left of the Railway station are the Entrance gates & one bare platform, the platform building is gone..

There was alser a bad Train collision just down from that station in the 1920's

So your a cockney-lad from poor section of town?

Wallace has a hard time seeing you like that.

Like the Syphlist cannily observed : people get this  mindset thats hard to dislodge, no matter the reality.

With a name like "Andre" ,I somehow connected you to Belgium (probs via the meticulousness of one Poirot). Andre means French descent - or Brittany or Quebec or Belgium.

No Brit is called Andre.
